Sutra #9 : स्वप्नो विकल्पः

Sutra #9

Sutra in Sanskrit: स्वप्नो विकल्पः

Transliteration: Svapno Vikalpah

Essence: The dream state occurs when we are not fully present, often caught in thoughts of the past or the future. Dreams, or vikalpas, deplete the body's energy. Happiness arises when we transcend this state.

Analysis in depth: This sutra elucidates that the dream state involves mental fluctuations, where the mind oscillates between memories of the past and anticipations of the future. Such mental activity drains the body's energy and disturbs inner peace.

Reflections: Reflect on the idea that happiness is found in the present moment, free from the mental fluctuations of the past and future. By transcending the dream state, one can cultivate a deeper sense of contentment and fulfillment.

Advice to seeker: Practice mindfulness and presence to anchor yourself in the present moment, releasing attachment to past regrets and future worries. Through techniques like meditation and self-inquiry, strive to awaken to the reality of the present and experience true happiness.
